Spiritual Leadership (1)

For some time now, I’ve been really studying the Word with regard to several key subjects.  I know that my God is ALL powerful, ALL knowing, and I know that there is POWER in prayer.  So I made a list of what I want to see.  I’ve placed scripture(s) next to those items and then I’ve began studying each of those topics in depth.  Looking up the scripture(s) I’ve written next to each subject and then learning of other scriptures that I found from the concordance or from having verses cross-referenced.  That is a brief update on what I’ve been doing since November 2017 to present.

However, as I began to study the meaning of leadership in the Bible, my spirit has been excited by what I’ve learned.  It has also given me wisdom in how to pray with regard to this subject.  So I thought, as I study the topic of Leadership, I would share my insight with you.  I don’t claim credit for this insight at all because I know that I’ve only become aware of these truths by God’s guidance, understanding, and wisdom.

I pray that whomever decides to read this is as excited and blessed by this message as I was when I was studying it.

I began my study in the book of Hebrews and have written my notes below.

Hebrews 13:7 ” Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you.  Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”

How does one become a spiritual leader?

  1. To grow spiritually, you have to have godly fellowship.
    • Hebrews notes to “consider the outcome of their [leaders who spoke God’s word] way of life and imitate their faith.”  This means that the godly fellowship you should have, should be with someone who knows more than you.  They are spiritually mature. (not baby christians)
    • What are traits of one who is spiritually mature?
      • They Talk & Hear from God.
        • Talking is a just prayer and whenever we have conversations with someone, we take turns in listening.  Sometimes in the time of prayer, God may say something to us.  Someone who is spiritually mature knows this and they can mentor/teach others how to do the same.
        • This may also include some God stories.  When you follow the instructions of God when you hear from Him, you will have opportunities to minister to others.  Sometimes you see the fruit of that obedience right away and sometimes not.  However, God knows your heart in that moment of obedience.
      • They Know God’s word (Bible).
        • They know scripture, they know the truths of the Bible.  This is also another way to hear from God is by studying the Word.  It gives you wisdom to things you would not have known otherwise.
      • They have faith & patience.
        • When they talk and hear from God.  when they read and study the Word of God, their faith grows.  As I noted with regard to God stories.  The more you know, the more you obey, the more you obey the more your faith will grow.
      • Their lives imitate Christ.
        • This will come as they follow the 1st two items noted above (i.e. talking and hearing from God & knowing God’s word).  The more we learn the more we are transformed.
          • 2 Corinthians 3:18 “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

To conclude this study, I’ve learned that praying for spiritual leadership just doesn’t come because I’m praying for it.  There are steps one has to take for spiritual leadership.  To grow and learn in something that we have not yet obtained we need to surround ourselves with persons who are spiritually mature.  I’ve learned that we can’t grow spiritually without being in fellowship or mentorship with one who is already spiritually mature.

That is what I learned in the first part of my study.  I hope that this enlightened you as it did me.  Lord willing, I hope to have another one up soon that will take this subject a bit deeper.

Love you and God Bless!

One response to “Spiritual Leadership (1)”

  1. I really enjoyed this. Very clear to understand and I think I’m going to study this way with keywords I would like to work on. As sometimes going from front to back I stop mid season and then feel I have to start all over again. So I never really get anywhere new.
